That is not true. Yes, people go to rallies to hear the parties out, see what they can offer to THEM after they win the election.
To me, it's not about what my future MP can do for ME in MY CONSTITUENCY, because that is very microscopic and selfish.
Think Potong Pasir. Think Chiam See Tong. Think Low Thia Kiang.
Does living in Potong Pasir makes someone a second-class citizen, who pays the same amount of tax every year but never enjoy lift-upgrading like the rest of us?
The way to help Potong Pasir get upgrading is not by voting for PAP, it's by voting for oppositions.
The root of all the problems we are facing in Singapore is we have a very one-sided government. Whatever plans or policies they come up with, good or bad, will 100% go through the Parliament. It will always be 85 VS 2!
We only have 2 opposition voices in the Parliament. That is very sad.
**Scenario**
PM: This is the upgrading plan for the next 5 years.
Chiam: How come after 27 years, Potong Pasir still not allocated funds for lift upgrading?
PM: Sorry, we have limited budget, please wait for 5 more years.
Low: I think we should have a discussion on this.
PM: Ok, can I see a number of hands who thinks Potong Pasir can wait 5 more years?
(ALL 85 other MPs raise their hands)
**End of Discussion**
But imagine a Parliament with MORE opposition voices. That is when there will be real debates and constructive discussions on national policies. That is when residents in Potong Pasir can receive their well-deserved upgrading, without having to sacrifice their principles and succumbing to PAP's emotional blackmail.
Looking at the candidates, there are always good apples and bad apples in a basket. It really makes no difference who's voted in.
So I already know who my vote goes to even before I attended any rally or read any manifesto. I am not voting the opposition just for the sake of satisfying the rebellious freak in me. I am voting for a more balanced parliament.
